Homemade, Rose Scented Sugar Donuts
Homemade donuts are always good. These are unbelievable. Rose and vanilla donuts!
The light rose flavor holds up well in the frying process, although I was afraid it wouldn't. Rose is such a delicate flavor! But it seemed to come out just a good as I had hoped.
These are very fresh and "spring-y", and made in a diminutive size would be really neat for a spring tea. I am thinking of using the dough to make filled donuts next time and filling them with lemon curd, or bavarian cream...MMMMM... :)
Rose and Vanilla Donuts
1 C sugar
2 tbs melted butter, cooled to room temp
2 eggs
4 c flour
4 tsp baking powder
pinch salt
1 tsp vanilla
2 tbs rosewater
1 c milk
Beat eggs. Add sugar gradually, beatng well. Blend in butter and flavorings. Add dry ingredients alternately with the milk. Knead lightly just to make it a cohesive ball. Roll out on a well floured counter and cut into donuts. Fry at 365 until golden, drain. Shake in a paper bag of sugar mixed with pink sugar crystals.
